Road tax rises except for HGVs
In the Budget, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced plans to freeze road tax for HGVs in a bid to offer support to the struggling haulage industry
The vehicle excise duty (VED) for HGVs will be frozen until April 2023, while he also suspended the HGV road user levy for another 12 months from August 2022.
There are also plans to invest £32.5m in roadside facilities for HGV drivers on the road, frequently criticised as being totally inadequate.
This will cost an estimated £10m a year to the Exchequer.
The government will uprate road tax rates for cars, vans and motorcycles in line with the retail prices index (RPI) from 1 April 2022.
